ProjectPorkchop is all about bringing more exposure to the many talented yet under appreciated artists going unseen on deviantART daily. The artists chosen truly deserve more attention based on low counts of favorites, comments, and watchers, added to their incredible artistic talent.

Welcome back for another edition of our new interview series

ProjectPorkchop: Prime Cuts

hosted by DMD-CT

This project is intended to bring the community closer to the many talented yet underexposed artists that we feature each week. Today's featured artist is jesus-at-art.

Something About a Moon by jesus-at-art

"My name is Mitchell Nolte and I am an aspiring professional artist with the username Jesus-at-art from the United States. I moved from Alabama to the Sunshine State - specifically, Titusville - nearly 5 years ago and my new surroundings have given me insight to the process of creating art. I have taken art courses at Eastern Florida State College and will soon transfer to UCF, where I either pursue a business or art degree ( I haven't decided yet)."

When did you first realize that you wanted to become an artist?

I have been drawing ever since I was three and I continue to draw every day, but I didn't really get serious with art until 2009, when I was fifteen. I began making a portfolio book of my best work and I haven't looked back since.

What would you say defines your unique personal style?

My personal style has shifted course over the years; those who have looked through my gallery have seen that I originally began with portraits and still lifes, followed by tattoo designs and abstract pieces. These past two years I have dived into the worlds of the surreal and fantasy and I re-surfaced with outlandish concepts rendered in meticulous detail. I prefer my drawings to be filled with lots of details, those are the ones that people seem to like most. In fact, in several of my drawings, I include a little self-portrait hidden in some part of the composition.

Which piece from your gallery would you say you are most proud of?

My favorite piece from my gallery is from my third collection, Book 3. It's called Kids in America and it depicts a fleet of children riding a menajerie of transportation vehicles and animals, including a rocket-powered train and a dragon, in an exodus into space to escape their dying planet. Like most of my drawings, the artwork is rendered in colored pencil on 8.5" by 11" carbon paper and is currently for sale.

What inspires you to create your art?

My three biggest sources of inspiration when creating art are children's books, music and movies. My parents used to read me hundreds of books when I was a kid, and the different illustration styles in each book made an impression on me, as well the movies. I also listen to music while I draw; it helps me relax.

What projects are you working on currently that the community should know about? What do you have planned for the future?

I have no major projects to share that concern the general public, but I want the community to know that I am currently open to commissions for hand-drawn or digital work. I am also researching the use of merging 3D printing techniques with artwork. In the near future, I might buy a bamboo tablet, as I have never worked with one before and the digital realm interests me as well. Although I have mastered colored pencils, oil and acrylic painting are other mediums that I plan to explore soon too.

What first attracted you to Deviant Art?
What do you hope to accomplish in your time on this site?

The first time I ever heard about Deviant Art was under the recommendation of a friend around 2007-2008. In 2010 I signed up because I was intrigued by the vast network of artists, groups, and ideas that I saw. I had no idea that there were so many creative people in the world! Unarguably it was the best decision I've made so far. As mentioned before, I hope to sell more of my artwork and promote my name as an experienced artist here on Deviant Art. If there is anyone reading this who is interested in seeing or purchasing my artwork, please visit my page: jesus-at-art.deviantart.com/

Please tell us one interesting fact about yourself that we don't know about you.

Something a lot of people on Deviant Art do not know about me is that I am a very helpful person. I like to go to the Forum section and offer criticism or advice to individuals who are struggling with a problem. It's my way of giving support back to the community.

By the way, for those of you who are wondering why I chose the username Jesus-at-art, there was a good friend of mine from Alabama who was impressed with my drawing skills when he first met me. He said "Dude, you are like Jesus when it comes to art!" so...there you have it.
