Alexander Rommel is a 25 year old digital artist originally from Siberia, Russia. He is currently living in Germany where he has studied landscape design and environmental planning in Neubrandenburg. He is working part-time doing landscape design and urban planning, mostly on
3D-visualizations.

When did you first discover your passion for art?

Between the age of 5-6 I started to paint, and always tended to paint
certain things excessively. At first, it was street lights, then omnibusses and trees. There were phases where I didnt paint anything else besides one motif.
The lighting effects in your work are truly awe inspiring! How did you develop your amazing skills?

I have always had a passion for light...any kind from sunsets or lightning, but also artificial types like flashlights, lasers or car headlights. Before I came to digital art, I had drawn it with pencils, trying to visualize its effects. But for truly good paintings with lighting, you need colors, and I just didnt feel like I could achieve this using watercolor or other methods. The results also didnt please me really. Digital art offered a new chance for my art to develop. The most progress I can accredit to studying nature as well as looking at works of other great artists and trying to understand the methods and tools that they used.

What is your favorite piece from your gallery and why?

My most favourite painting is also the most faved of the DA community, and it is called On shore of the sky. I guess I just had the luck to make the right composition with the right colours, lines and volumes / proportions, and with its airy surrealistic content.

Besides art, what else are you passionate about in life?

I have always liked and still like to go out into nature, driving around in a boat and go fishing. The interaction with nature is really inspiring for art as nature helps me feel alive. I always like to travel, driving my car, no matter where. I like to be in my garden, and besides the gardening itself, there I like to spend long evenings speaking drivel with my friends. In addition, Im a voluntary member of the German organization for technical relief (THW), and I've made some promotional art for them which you can look at in my gallery.

Can you tell us one interesting fact about yourself that we don't know?

Well, there's a saying "The artist always paints himself." I've painted alot, so there's much room for interpretation.

Name three influential artists on DeviantART whose works
inspire you and tell us why you look up to them.

I can name Artyom Cheboha (Rhads), Cyril Rolando (Aquasixio) or Niken Anindita (megatruh), but there are also many more others.
